Staten Island, NY – Junior forward Nick Escalante (Whittier, CA) had a remarkable performance scoring five second half goals leading the SUNY Canton men's soccer team to a 5-0 win against Berkeley College on Saturday at the College of Staten Island.
After a scoreless first half that saw multiple offensive chances the Roos broke through in a big way in the final 45 minutes. SUNY Canton got on the board at 52:05 when Tyler Gallagher (Potsdam, NY) played a ball out in front of net to Escalante who finished a beautiful goal with a diving header.
Minutes later Devin Gruneisen (Potsdam, NY) played a nice through ball up the middle to Escalante who beat the goalie to make it 2-0. In the 62nd minute Escalante completed the hat trick when he received a pass from Prince Adu Gyamfi (Bronx, NY). Less than a minute later the junior struck once again, this time off a pass from Randy Mayer (Akron, NY).
Escalante closed out the scoring for the day at the 77:33 mark when Maurizio Paniconi (Carolina, Puerto Rico) played the Whittier, CA native to close out a remarkable performance.
Patrick Anunziatta (Schenectady, NY) recorded his third consecutive shutout in goal for SUNY Canton.
