St. Lawrence University's baseball team gave Skidmore College six unearned runs in game six of the 2012 Liberty League Championship Tournament on Tom Fay Field and as a result, will have to play a second game against Skidmore Sunday at noon to determine the 2012 tournament champion and the automatic NCAA bid that goes with the tourney title.

Skidmore, which beat RPI 8-3 in an elimination game earlier in the day on Saturday, held off the Saints for a 7-5 win, giving each team one loss in the double-elimination tournament. The Saints, 28-13 overall, are still looking for their first win of the year against the Thoroughbreds, now 29-15.

They probably should have had that win Saturday. Their normally solid defense committed six errors and while they outhit the Thoroughbreds 15-7, the Saints stranded 16 runners, leaving at least two on in six on nine innings.

Skidmore scored three, all unearned in the top of the second as one run scored on an error, Alex Barber stole home and the third run against Saint starter Jason Conde scored on a sacrifice fly. It went to 3-0 on another unearned run I the top of the third as Zack Rudman reached on an error and scored on Nick Barra's single.\

The Saints got a run back in the bottom of the second as Matt D;Auteuil singled and went to third on Ethan Braddock's double with D'Auteuil scoring on a wild pitch by Skidmore starter and eventual winner Nick Petrella SLU cut the Skidmore lead to 4-3 in the bottom of the fourth as Carter Franz delivered a two-out single and to keep the inning alive and Jeff Kott hit a two-run single to left.

Skidmore came right back with two in the top of the fifth with a single, walk and a RBI single by Matt Takow for one run and the other coming across on a ground out. The Thoroughbreds made it a 7-3 game in the top of the sixth with the run scoring on a bases loaded double play grounder.

Andrew Schreyack came on to shut down Skidmore the rest of the way and while the Saints got single runs back in the bottom of the eighth and ninth, they couldn't pull even. Franz tripled with one out and scored on Khifer O'Connor's single in the eighth and singles by Brian Magovney, D'Auteuil and Bryan Palermo loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth with one out. A ground ball by Franz produced the run, but Isaac Forman worked out of the inning to earn his second save of the day.

Franz went three for six for the Saints while Palermo, Kott, Magovney and D;Auteuil had two hits each. Rudman and Tatkow accounted for four of Skidmore's seven hits.
