Troy, NY – A solid effort in the second half was not enough to overcome two first half goals as the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team fell to the Rensselaer Engineers 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights (3-8-0, 0-3 Liberty League) come home next weekend to host the Skidmore College Thoroughbreds on Saturday afternoon, while RPI (7-2-1, 2-0 Liberty League) next travels to take on Union College on Wednesday.

Clarkson fired multiple shots in the first 15 minutes, including Tori Sailor's (Londonderry, NH) shot on net that was saved by Steph Vargas. The Engineers would turn things around midway through the half when Shelby Stromerson took a direct kick and Taylor Krytko headed it into the net passed Clarkson goalkeeper Kim Kenline (Akron, NY).

Play slowed down as neither team had many scoring chances until the very end of the period when Ayrton Starks took a corner kick and found the head of Coley Mowder, who directed the ball inside the far post to give the Engineers a 2-0 lead at the half.

The Golden Knight backline stepped up in the second half, keeping RPI off the scoreboard as Kenline stopped 4 shots for a total of six saves on the afternoon. The Green and Gold held the Engineers without a shot in the final 20 minutes of play.
