St. Lawrence senior captain Karell Emard became the 17th player in University history to reach 100 career points, but the Saints needed two goals in the final 90 seconds to stun Quinnipiac University by the score of 4-3 in Hamden, CT on Friday night.

St. Lawrence, which outshot the Bobcats 38-27, kept pace in the ECAC Hockey playoff chase, improving to 18-8-4 on the season. Meanwhile, Quinnipiac falls two points off the pace in the race for home ice advantage dropping to 15-13-2.

"A wild third period was capped off by a crazy finish," said St. Lawrence head coach Chris Wells. "There was great resolve by both teams and we were fortunate to get the last bounce. Rick (Seeley) switched up his lines and they took it to us in the third until we were able to get the goalie out."

The first period was owned by the goaltenders, as St. Lawrence's Carmen MacDonald and Quinnipiac's Victoria Vigilanti exchanged outstanding saves throughout the stanza. However, Emard would capitalize on a rebound in front of Vigilanti at 18:25, scoring her 11th goal of the season to put the Saints on top 1-0 to reach the 100 point mark. Junior Kelly Sabatine took the initial shot, while sophomore Rylee Smith was also credited with a helper.

The lone goal of the second period belonged to the Scarlet and Brown as senior Alley Bero scored on the power play at 11:08. The Akwesasne, NY native's second goal of the year was assisted by sophomore Brooke Fernandez.

Needing to rally in the third, Quinnipiac made a few adjustments during the second intermission and came out flying. Breann Frykas scored back-to-back goals to tie the game at 2:13 and 6:08 for the home team before Regan Boulton's eighth goal of the season came on the power play and gave the Bobcats a 3-2 lead.

St. Lawrence was able to generate great chances in the third, outshooting Quinnipiac 18-8. Though Vigilanti and the Bobcats appeared poised to escape with the win, Coach Wells opted to pull MacDonald for an extra attacker with just under 2:00 minutes remaining. The gamble paid off, as Smith lit the lamp at 18:26 for her 18th goal of the year to tie the score at 3-3, with assists going to sophomore Mel Desrochers and Emard.

A mere 22 seconds later, Sabatine would vault the Saints on top for good at 18:48, taking a pass from rookie Amanda Boulier and stunning Vigilanti and the Bobcats with her 17thgoal of the year. Quinnipiac failed to rebound in the final minute, as St. Lawrence won for the 12th time in 14 games.

St. Lawrence finished 1-for-4 on the power play, while Quinnipiac was 1-for-5. MacDonald earned the win with a 24-save performance, while Vigilanti stopped 34 in the loss.

The Saints will play a crucial league game tomorrow, Saturday, February 11 against the Princeton Tigers at 4:00pm in Hobey Baker Rink.
