Edwards, Biswal earn meet awards, Saints champs again in Liberty League Track

Graduate student Elizabeth Edwards and sophomore Divya Biswal were two-event champions, capturing two of nine Saint individual titles and the St. Lawrence University's women's track and field team pulled steadily away to win its second straight Liberty League Outdoor Championship at Vassar on Saturday.

Edwards was named the co-Track Performer of the Meet while Biswal, who won both the long and triple jumps, was the Field Performer of the Meet. SLU won the team title with 216 points with RPI second at 175, RIT third with 107, Vassar fourth with 97, Bard fifth with 14 and Union sixth eight eight points.

Edwards set a Liberty League record in winning the 5000 meters in 17:39.10 and also won the 1500 with a time of 4:48.27. Biswal won the long jump with a 5.19 meter jump and jumped a Liberty League 11.63 meters on her second jump and did not have to jump again in winning the triple jump.

The Saints gave the field some points with no entries in the first event of the meet, the 10,000 meters and were disqualified on a bad pass in the 4x100 relay but came storming back to take the lead through helped along by 22 points in the javelin. They also had an 18-point day in the high jump, led by senior Kylie Morris, who won the event with a Liberty League record mark of 1.63 meters with Marisa Turner finishing second.

Caroline Raue was the first Saint champion of the day for the women as she won the 3000 steeplechase in 10:58.33 and Samantha Weber led the Saint point charge in the javelin with a throw of 30.66 meters. Jenna Jasinski finished third at 30.38 meters with Meghan O'Brien fourth and Hannah Kinsey finishing fifth.

Senior Jessica Marini won the 400 meter hurdles in 1:03.30 with Carly Stine second, both breaking the stadium record while Jessica Tyree won the discus with a 36.27 meter throw with Kristen Linder third. Linder was second in the shot at 11:08 meters and Tyree was fourth and Linder added a third with Weber sixth in the hammer.

Marini led off the second place 4x400 relay team and was joined by Pond, Turner and Stine in running 4:02.19.

Allison Scarf was second in the 100 hurdles in 16.34 seconds, Kinsey added a second in the 100 and a third in the 200 to her javelin finish and Anna Pondwas third with Turner fifth in the 400 with Pond adding a fourth in the 200 and Sydney Bell scoring with a fifth place finish. Kelsey Leder was fourth in the 5000 and Kristen Jovanelly scored in the 800 with a sixth place finish and Chinelo Asanya was fifth and Bell sixth in the 100.

Scarf was third in the triple jump and finished sixth in the long jump while Caitlyn Boreyko was third, Taylor Washington fourth and Staci Czaja fifth for other Saint points in the field events.

Individuals will participate in the Penn Relays during the week and the team will compete at the Cornell Invitational on Sunday in the next outing for the Saints.
