Edwards and Naclerio lead St. Lawrence men's hoops past Skidmore

Kyle Edwards and Riley Naclerio each scored 16 points and Willie Zachery added 13 points five assists and three steals leading the St. Lawrence University Men's Basketball team to a convincing 69-53 win over Skidmore in a Liberty League matchup Tuesday night in Burkman Gym in Canton.

The win helped the Saints (11-7 overall, 7-3 Liberty League) remain in first place in the league standings with just six games left to play. Skidmore (12-8, 7-5) dropped to third in the standings. The victory was also the fourth in a row for the Saints and fifth win in the last six games.

The Saints jumped out to an early lead and a layup by Edwards 6:30 into the contest gave St. Lawrence an eight-point lead.

With the Saints up four with 6:40 left in the first half, Kyle Kobis sparked a 12-0 run that gave St. Lawrence a commanding lead. Kobis started the run with a pair of free throws, Ben Crawford added a layup Kieran Miller had a layup and Kobis hit two more free throws before Naclerio scored five straight on a 3-pointer and a layup.

St. Lawrence took a 35-18 lead into the halftime intermission.

Naclerio and Zachery hit jumpers early in the second half to open up a 20-point lead before a Miller 3-pointer and a Zachery three-point play created the largest lead of the game at 50-24 with 13:24 left to play.

The Saints maintained the big lead for the remainder of the game.

Edwards and Naclerio led the scoring with 16 each and Zachery had 13 points for the Saints. Naclerio's 11 rebounds led the team while Edwards and Zachery combined for 11 assists. The Saints finished shooting 43% from the field and missed just three free throws (16-for-19) in the game.

The Saints play two key Liberty League games against Union Friday night and RPI Saturday afternoon. Both games are at home in Burkman Gymnasium in Canton.
