Matthew Edkins remained undefeated in diving events so far this season, winning the 1-meter event on the first day of competition at the Don Richards Invitational at RIT to lead the St. Lawrence University men's swimming and diving team on Friday night.
Edkins posted a score of 493.80 in the 11-dive competition, easily outpacing his closest competitor. Clarkson's Brent Reid was second with 395.45 points.
Isaac Brinkman led the Saints' swimmers, finishing third in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of four minutes, 54.90 seconds, more than 13 seconds faster than his previous best time this season. Brinkman was also a member of the Saints' 200 free and 400 medley relays, which both finished fifth.
The Saints finished Day 1 with 96 points, good for fifth place in the six-team invitational. Competition will conclude with morning and afternoon sessions on Saturday.
