WORCESTER, MASS--- The Eastern Connecticut State University men's basketball (1-1) held off the SUNY Potsdam men's basketball team (1-2) in the closing minutes to claim the 89-81 win in Worcester Polytechnic Institute's Ted Coghlin Memorial Tournament Consolation Game. Junior guard Danny Delsol-Lowry (Queens, N.Y./Queens High School of Teaching) led the Bears with 20 points, four rebounds and three assists. Cory Muckle led ECSU with 18 points and eight rebounds and Carlos Gonzales chipped in with 15 points (13 in the second half) and seven rebounds.

For much of the first half, the game was fast paced with both teams trading baskets. Potsdam, was forced to call a timeout at the 11:04 mark after back-to-back turnovers and a three-pointer by forward Dimitry Moise. Moise would give ECSU the largest lead of the half (eight) after a 3-pointer with 9:01 left. Junior guard Jayquan Thomas (Hollis, N.Y./Richmond Hill) cut the lead to two for Potsdam, after a steal and euro-stepping for the basket and the foul at the 7:58 mark. ECSU took an eight-point lead into the second half after Jake Collagan made two free-throws with 1.2 seconds left. Collagan gave ECSU a spark with his 3-point shooting, making three, for his 13 first half points. Delsol-Lowry had 10 first half points for Potsdam.

ECSU opened up the second half with a jump shot from sophomore guard Cory Muckle extending the lead to 10. The Bears answered with a quick 5-0 run, started with a 3-pointer from the corner from senior guard Dante Langley (Schuylerville, N.Y./Schuylerville). A few plays later after a missed layup, junior guard Aaron Armstrong (Lisbon, N.Y./Madrid-Waddington) was there for the offensive board and the put back, cutting the lead to five. ECSU stopped the momentum by the Bears after Gonzalez drilled a three, and then on the ensuing inbounds, Leonel Hyatt made a layup to push the lead back to 10. The Bears got within six after a layup from sophomore guard Colby Simpson (Queens, N.Y./Queens H.S. OF Teaching), forcing ECSU to call a timeout at the 9:32 mark. Gonzales once again halted the comeback effort for Potsdam, going on a 7-0 run by himself, making a 3-pointer as the shot clock expired, then another jump shot, followed by a steal and a layup. Another steal and coast-to-coast layup by Seth Thomas gave ECSU the biggest lead of the afternoon at 15. After almost three minutes of no scoring from either team, a layup from Delsol-Lowry helped start an 8-1 run, capped by another euro step from Thomas that cut the lead to seven with just over a minute left. However, ECSU extended its lead to eight and closed out the victory.

Langley added 16 points and pulled down six rebounds on the afternoon. Senior guard Nosa Onabor (Brooklyn, N.Y./Northside Charter) had 15 points for the Bears.

Collagan posted 16 points, four boards, and four assists for ECSU. Thomas had 14 points and pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.

ECSU shot 48 percent from the field, 44 percent from three, while Potsdam shot 46 percent from the field.

Potsdam is back in action a week from today, heading to Marywood University for a 3 p.m. tip on November 24.
