LAKE PLACID -- Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Hockey will hold its championship series at the 1980 Rink - Herb Brooks Arena in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
A three-year term was agreed upon by ECAC Hockey and the New York State Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) to conduct the annual men’s championship in Lake Placid beginning next season.
The announcement of the agreement was made Aug. 14.
The championship has previously been conducted at Boston Arena (1962-66), Boston Garden (1967-92), Olympic Arena in Lake Placid (1993-02), Pepsi Arena/Times Union Center (2003-10), and Boardwalk Hall (2011-2013).
The elite ECAC Hockey conference comprises 12 of the most prestigious men’s ice hockey programs in the nation, including North Country rivals St. Lawrence University of Canton and Clarkson University in Potsdam. Other members are Brown, Colgate, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Princeton, Quinnipiac, Rensselaer, Union and Yale universities.
The 1908 Rink - Herb Brooks Arena, one of three ice surfaces at the Olympic Center, is a 8,500-seat multi-purpose arena in. This surface, along with the USA Rink was built for the 1980 Winter Olympics.
