The St. Lawrence University Men's Basketball team fell behind early in the first half and surrendered another run early in the second half as SUNY Brockport scored an 81-57 victory Wednesday night in a non-conference game at Burkman Gymnasium in Canton.
The Saints (0-2) fell behind 8-0 in the opening minutes of the game and Brockport (1-0) opened up a 10-point lead at the 10:46 mark in the first half and then pushed the lead to 16 points eight minutes later.
St. Lawrence trimmed the lead to 11 points with a run at the end of the half as Brockport took a 42-31 advantage into the halftime intermission.
After a pair of Willie Zachery free throws early in the second half trimmed the Brockport lead to nine points at 45-36, the Golden Eagles scored the next 10 consecutive points to open up a 19-point advantage. The lead was 23 points at the midpoint of the second half and the teams played fairly even for the final 10 minutes of action
First Year Dom DeRegis came off the bench to lead the Saints with 13 points and Ben Crawford also came off the bench to add nine points with Zachery, Kyle Kobis and Adey Adams each scored seven points for the Saints. Kaleb Faison led the team with six rebounds and Adams had five.
The Saints will hit the road for the first time this season playing in the Medaille College Tournament in Buffalo over the weekend. St. Lawrence will face host Medaille at 5 pm Friday night and then play eight Baldwin Wallace or Middlebury Saturday at either 1 or 3 pm.
