The St. Lawrence University softball team dropped two Liberty League games to Union College on Sunday by the scores of 7-3 and 4-1 (9). The Dutchwomen used a four-run second inning to claim the opener, and then scored three unanswered runs in the ninth inning of game two to earn the sweep.

St. Lawrence falls to 13-7 and 0-4 in the league after losing its last four games. Junior Lauren Weisbarth and sophomore Caroline Kieltyka led the Saints as they each went 2-for-6 on the day and scored a run. Union, led by Erika Hillenbrand, Samantha Chevalier and Allyson Staats, improves to 14-8 with a 3-1 mark in the conference.

In the first game of the day, Union took a 4-0 lead off of five hits in the second inning. St. Lawrence threatened in the fourth inning when two walks and a Union miscue left runners on first and third with two outs. Wolejko forced a foul out to get out of the inning.

The visitors tacked on another run in the fifth before going up 7-0 on a two-run homerun by Staats in the seventh inning. The Saints responded in the bottom of the inning when Weisbarth singled and then came around to score on a double by sophomore Leslie Stratton. Junior Chelsea Cavellier followed with a double with two outs to bring Stratton home, then scored on a Union error to cut the score to 7-3. Wolejko and the Dutchwomen retired the next batters to win 7-3.

Wolejko earned the win on the mound, scattering seven hits with four walks and two strikeouts. McGinley suffered the loss as she gave up 14 hits to fall to 6-3 on the season.

Chevalier was 3-for-4 with two runs to lead the Dutchwomen, while Staats, Hillenbrand and Nini Cervini were each 2-for-4. For the Saints, Cavellier was 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Weisbarth and Stratton scored the team's other two runs.

In game two, Union again struck first, taking a 1-0 lead in the third inning. The Saints scored the equalizer in the fifth inning when Kieltyka led the inning off with a single and then advanced home on two Union errors. With a runner on second and no outs, the Dutchwomen defense tightened up to get the next three outs and keep the score tied at 1-1.

St. Lawrence had a chance to win in the seventh when Weisbarth led the inning off with a single through the left side, but the Saints couldn't push her across the plate, forcing extra innings.

After a scoreless eighth, Plimpton ran into trouble in the ninth when Hillenbrand singled to start the inning and was followed by Wolejko who was hit by a pitch. Cervini moved the runners to second and third on a sacrifice bunt, and Chevalier delivered a two-out single up the middle to bring both runners home. Staats followed with an RBI double to bring the score to 4-1 in favor of the visitors.

Though the Saints had baserunners in the bottom of the ninth, the Dutchwomen secured the 4-1 victory with a double play to end the game.

Blake improved to 3-2 on the mound as she gave up six hits, no earned runs and struck out three. First-year student Kyle Plimpton took the loss for the Saints as she allowed seven hits and four earned runs with 10 strikeouts.

St. Lawrence will look to rebound from the losses on Wednesday as it hosts Plattsburgh State.
