The St. Lawrence University men's lacrosse team lost to Union College on Saturday afternoon in Schenectady, NY by the score of 10-6.

The Saints (3-6, 0-2) outshot Union, 31-24, but struggled on man-up tries, finishing only 1-of-7.  Meanwhile, the Dutchmen improve to 6-2 (2-0) after defeating St. Lawrence for the first time since 2001.  Juniors Kyle Jacobsen and Matt Pope each scored two goals for the Saints, while sophomores Dave Schoettler and Dave Hovey added one apiece.

Union's Joe Cordrey finished with a game-high three goals, while Ted McKenna and Brendan Kinnane each scored two.

Though Jacobsen gave the visitors an early 1-0 lead only 2:16 into regulation, the Saints offense stalled and did not score again until the 4:56 mark of the third quarter.  Their offensive struggles allowed Union to rattle off seven straight goals to take a 7-1 lead at halftime.  McKenna led the way for the Dutchmen, scoring twice in the first half to give his team the six-goal cushion at intermission.

St. Lawrence would try to creep back into the game early in the third quarter, as Schoettler and Pope scored back-to-back goals only 14 seconds apart to pull the Saints back to within four at 7-3.  However, Union battled back with three straight goals to close the quarter and push its lead to 10-3.  Cordrey scored two including the team's final goal, while Kinnane added his ninth of the season.

The Scarlet and Brown would pour on the offensive tries in the fourth quarter, outshooting Union by a 10-1 margin.  Though they got goals from Pope, Hovey and Jacobsen and held the Dutchmen scoreless, the team's rally fell short by the final score of 10-6.

Union's Sean Aaron earned the win in net for the home team, finishing with nine saves while allowing only four goals in 58:10 of action.  Meanwhile, sophomore Jack Nuland suffered the loss for St. Lawrence after allowing four goals on five shots.  Classmate James Fuller made four saves in relief, while junior Matt Ruscio also saw time in net for the Saints.

St. Lawrence will look to pick up its first Liberty League win of the season on Wednesday, April 13 when they head to Potsdam, NY to face Clarkson University.  The game is scheduled to begin at 4:00pm.
