Dutchmen edge Saints in Liberty League men's basketball play

Three members of the Saints' squad netted double figures, but Union edged the St. Lawrence University men's basketball team 70-61 in Liberty League play on Friday night in Burkman Gymnasium.

Ben Crawford led the Scarlet and Brown with his seventh double-double of the season, recording 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Riley Naclerio added 13 points and Chris Miner finished with 10. Miner also grabbed three steals for the Saints.

The Saints claimed an early lead and maintained a slight edge over the Dutchmen through most of the first half. With 53 seconds to play, Mike Cannon shot 2-for-2 from the line to tie the game 26-26 and Mike Manley put the Dutchmen up by two points just four seconds before halftime.

St. Lawrence got an early jump again in the second half, but a 3-pointer from Kevin McNoble gave the Dutchmen a 35-34 lead with just over 14 minutes to play.

Union extended its lead to double-digits by the 10-minute mark and controlled the lead for the remainder of the game, outscoring the Saints 42-35 in the second half.

Rhona Eseyade led Union with 16 points, shooting 6-for-8 from the floor, and four blocks, while Mike Manley also scored 16 points and Brendan Laing added 10. Kevin McNoble finished with a team-best 12 rebounds.

The Dutchmen shot 46.9% from the floor and held the Saints to 37.9% shooting.

The Saints fell to 15-7 on the season and 12-3 in conference play, while Union improved to 9-12 and 5-10.

St. Lawrence will host Ithaca on senior day, Saturday, February 9. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.
