Freshman Josh Dunne (O'Fallon, MO) scored two goals to highlight Clarkson University's 4-1 non-league victory over Canisius College at Cheel Arena on Saturday night.

The Golden Knights, who have now won three straight, improve to 3-2 overall and will look to extend their winning streak as they open ECAC Hockey play in NY's Capital District next weekend, playing at Rensselaer and Union.

In a tight defensive game, Clarkson outshot Canisius (2-3) 22-16, including an 11-4 margin over the final 20 minutes.

After a scoreless first period in which both teams had five shots on net, Clarkson jumped out to a lead early in the middle frame with a pair of goals 68 seconds apart.

For the fifth time this season, the Knights put the first goal on the scoreboard when Dunne knocked in a bouncing puck at the top of the crease at 4:23. Classmate Chris Klack (Georgetown, ONT) and junior defenseman Jordan Schneider (Toronto, ONT) assisted.

At 5:31, junior co-captain Devin Brosseau (St. Lambert, QUE) redirected a shot from the point by junior defenseman Greg Moro (Edmonton, ALB) for his second goal of the season. Junior Haralds Egle (Liepaja, Latvia) also assisted.

With 1:41 remaining in the period, Canisius got on the scoreboard when Jimmy Mazza's shot from the point found its way through a screen just 20 seconds into a Golden Griffins' power play.

The Knights regained their two-goal advantage at 11:20 of the third period on Dunne's second goal of the game. Stationed in front of the Canisius crease, Dunne redirected a shot from the point by Moro for his third collegiate goal. Klack also set up the play for his second assist of the game.

With 75 seconds remaining, Clarkson sealed its third straight victory on Egle's empty-net goal. Junior co-captain Nico Sturm assisted.

Junior Jake Kielly (Eden Prairie, MN) made 15 saves.
