(Canton, N.Y.)- Freshman Greg Dobies (Schenectady, N.Y.) hit a walk-off, game-winning double to center field lifting the SUNY Canton baseball team to a 6-5 win over SUNYIT. The Roos, behind five RBIs from senior Gerardo Torres (Theresa, N.Y.) took game two 8-3.

The Wildcats posted two runs in the top half of the first inning of game one. The Roos got one back in the second inning off a SUNYIT error, and then after the Wildcats went back ahead in the third, tied the game 3-3 in the bottom of the inning when Torres and senior Tom Darling (Oswego, N.Y.) each laced a run-scoring single.

Both teams traded runs in the fourth inning. Mike Mainell plated a run with a single to centerfield for SUNYIT and the Roos answered when freshman Kyle Sacks (Clifton Park, N.Y.) laid down a sacrifice bunt that scored Dobies from third.

SUNY Canton regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth following another Wildcats error, but this time it was SUNYIT who answered when Jim Sass drove in Ryan Dungey, who had drew a walk, stole second and advanced to third on a SUNY Canton error.

SUNYIT loaded the bases in the top of the seventh, but sophomore Travis Legacy (Malone, N.Y.) got Connor Passa to ground out to third to escape the jam and end the inning.

Freshman Cody Ploughman (Barrie, Ontario) led off the bottom of the seventh with a single, but was caught trying to steal second. Junior Nick Belile (Norwood, N.Y.) then singled to right and was replaced by sophomore Chris Jones (Deerfield Beach, Fla.) as a pinch runner. Dobies took a 1-0 pitch and ripped a deep shot to centerfield that brought Jones home all the way from first base.

Darling went 3-for-3. Dobies also had a single, and Sacks and senior Michael Zelyez (Brasher Falls, N.Y.) added two singles apiece.

Legacy earned his fourth win striking out four batters in seven innings. He allowed 10 hits and four walks.

In the nightcap, the Roos broke open a close 4-3 contest with a four-run fourth inning, including a three-run double to right center by Torres. The senior finished 3-for-3 with two doubles, a season-high five RBIs and three runs. Zelyez, sophomore Luis Ramirez (Gurabo, Puerto Rico) and freshman Kevin Hill (Deerfield Beach, Fla.) also doubled, and Hill added three RBIs.

Junior Alex LaFountain (Keesville, N.Y.) won his fourth game fanning five batters in six innings allowing seven hits and four walks. Senior Zach Rosenthal (Miami, Fla.) came on in relief in the seventh inning and gave up two hits.

Sass had three hits in game one and Chandler Evans had three hits to lead the Wildcats in game two.

SUNY Canton hits the road for their next game playing at Hamilton College on Thursday, April 25 at 4 p.m.
