Divers shine, but Saints men's swim team falls to Hartwick

Divers Alex Blake and James Wilczewski combined to sweep the diving events for the Saints but Hartwick proved dominant in the swimming events and defeated the St. Lawrence men's swim and dive team 130-82.

Blake won the one-meter dive with a final score of 221.20, as Wilczewski took second in the event with 211.15 points. In the three-meter dive, it was Wilczewski who bested teammate Lucas Heath-Howe with 267.05 points to Heath-Howe's 146.60.

In the swimming events, Tad Deatly and Matt Bauer finished one and two for the Saints in the 500-yard freestyle, respectively. Bauer had slight lead after the first 50 yards, but Deatly pulled ahead after the turn and finished with a time of 5:30.68. Bauer's time in the event was 5:36.13.

The other individual winner on the day for the Saints was Hank McCormick who earned the victory in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:07.82, exactly six seconds ahead of second-place swimmer and teammate Keenan Weischedel (1:13.82).

In the final event of the meet, the 200-yard freestyle relay, the St. Lawrence team of Kirby Kaylor, Grant Reeder, Bauer and McCormick combined for a first-place time of 1:38.38.

The Saints will close out their home meet schedule on Saturday, Feb. 1 against Utica at 1 p.m.
