Distance Medley Relay is highlight of Saint ECAC Championship showing

A solid performance by the St. Lawrence University men's Distance Medley Relay team highlighted the Saint participation in the 2013 ECAC Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Armory in New York City.

The Saints scored 22 points in the meet, finishing 22nd in a 51-team field.

The Saint Distance Medley Relay finished third in 10:15.01 with Wesley Kirui running 3:10.7 on the 1300 meter lead leg, Nick Crawford 50.2 on the 400 meter leg, Jon Eng 1:57.5 in the 800 and Zach Nelson anchored the team with a 4:16.4 1600 meters.

Freshman Spencer Patterson ran the mile at the Tufts Last Chance meet on Saturday and finished sixth in 4:16.23

In other Friday results, Jake Fredericks qualified for the 60 meter hurdles finals with a 8.35 clocking, and while Omaru Kabia did not advance in the 60, he ran a personal best 7.07 in the qualifying heats. Fredericks and Kabia joined Andy Fisher and Vince Maniscalco on the 4x200 relay which finished 10th in 1:31.40. Jamal Samaroo was knocked out of competition in the 4x200 when he injured an ankle competing in the triple jump. He finished 10th with a 13.55 meter series, but turned his ankle on that jump, his third of the competition, and had to stop competing. He had also qualified for the long jump.

A.J. Blaisdell, threw a season's best 16.46 in the weight to finish sixth in that event at the Armory on Saturday. Scott Smolensky also scored with a sixth place finish, running 8:41.87, a season's best, in the 3000 meters. Mike Scott was seventh at 1.96 meters and Brian Kane was 12th at 1.91 meters in the high jump. Fredericks finished eighth in Saturday's 60 meter hurdle final, running 8.49 seconds. Crawford finished 21st in the 400 in 52.53 while Leif Frymire was 19th in the 500 in 1:07.84.
