Kaleigh White headed in a shot in the opening minute of the second half to tie the score at 1-1 and the St. Lawrence University women's soccer team held on for the tie after regulation and two overtime periods against Nazareth College Friday afternoon at Golden Flyer Stadium in Rochester.

The Saints (4-0-1) remained unbeaten with strong play by the defensive unit as Nazareth (2-1-2) had good scoring opportunities at the end of regulation and near the end of the second overtime but goalie Jackie Sovie made some big saves to preserve the tie.

"This game is always a battle and this year was no different," said head coach Franco Bari '98. "Both teams generated strong momentum and had a fair amount of chances. Nazareth is dangerous and they certainly tested our defensive unit. It was a fantastic effort and I'm really proud of our performance. We left everything on the field today."

The Golden Flyers took a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute and held the 1-0 lead at the halftime break.

Just 33 seconds into the second half, Hannah Merriam sent a ball toward the goal and White was able the head it in for the equalizer.

Late in the second half, Nazareth forward Julia Delgatti dribbled down the right side of the field and fired a shot from outside the 18-yard box and Sovie made a diving save.

In the closing seconds of regulation time, Delgatti had the ball in close and fired a shot toward the corner of the goal that Sovie again was able to save, forcing the overtime periods.

Late in the second overtime, the Golden Flyers worked the ball down near the end line and Sovie came out to make the stop but the ball slid under her hands and the Saints' defenders knocked the ball away from the goal line preventing a late goal.

Sovie finished with six saves and improved to 2-0-1 on the season.

The Saints will face SUNY Oswego at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
