Annandale-on-Hudson, NY – An historic defensive effort from the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team allowed a steady offense to do its work as the Golden Knights recorded an overwhelming 78-19 victory over Bard College in Liberty League action Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights improved to 8-7 on the season and pushed their conference record to 3-3, while Bard dropped to 0-13 and 0-5. Clarkson returns home to face William Smith and RIT next weekend.

The 19 points allowed by Clarkson were the fewest that the Golden Knights have given up against a four-year school in program history and are the second-lowest total ever in 915 games. Clarkson allowed just 16 points against Clinton Community College in early 1984.

The Raptors scored 12 of their 19 points in the second quarter as the Knights held Bard to a single point in the first quarter and only two points in the third quarter before allowing four points in the fourth quarter. It was the second time this season that Bard has been held to a single point in a period, recording one in the second quarter against Vassar on Tuesday.

Clarkson jumped out to a 14-0 lead with a Devin Sorell 3-pointer at the 3:42 mark, and Bard finally got on the board with a free throw with 2:12 remaining in the first. Early on in the second quarter a Hannah Isaacson jumper gave Clarkson a 28-1 advantage at the 6:37 mark. The Raptors finally got on the board with a 3-pointer at the 5:39 mark and actually went on a 6-0 run to pull to within 28-7. Clarkson would never see its lead fall below 20 for the remainder of the game, extending the advantage to 29 at the break. The Golden Knights' bench played 52 of a possible 100 minutes in the first half.

As impressive as Clarkson's defensive effort (5-for-29 shooting for Bard in the first half) was, the Knights allowed only three field goals in the entire second half and kept the Raptors to an 8-for-46 performance overall, their season-low for field goals made in a game. Bard didn't help itself on free throws though, either, shooting just 2-for-14 from the line. Clarkson also held a 49-28 advantage in rebounds and Bard only recorded two offensive rebounds in the second half after getting 10 second chances in the first half.

Sorell finished with a game-high 21 points on 9-for-13 shooting with four steals in just 18 minutes of action as Clarkson's starters were rested frequently. Freshman Molly Stewart added 13 points on 5-for-9 shooting and Ashley Hill added 10 points. Tricia Loso chipped in nine points and Hannah Isaacson made the most of her 26 minutes with six points and eight rebounds. For Bard, Alexis Akingbade recorded 12 rebounds. Annie Kissel and Andra Moye led the Raptors in scoring with seven points apiece.
