Feb. 1: In the final home meet of his St. Lawrence career, senior Tad Deatly led the Saints with a pair of wins and a second-place finish as the men's swim and dive team downed Utica 123-93 on Saturday afternoon.
Grant Reeder, Hank McCormick and Kirby Kaylor also earned individual victories on the day, while a trio of Saints divers in Alex Blake, James Wilzcewski and Lucas Heath-Howe swept both the one- and three-meter diving events.
Deatly was the top swimmer in the 1000 free and 200 fly and finished second in the 500 free. His time of 11:08.81 in the 1000 was more than a 10-second improvement on his previous top time in the event and also helped him beat the second-place Utica swimmer by nearly 34 seconds.
In the fly, Deatly edged Utica's Kaleb Bright by less than once second with a time of 2:24.70 compared to Bright's 2:25.58. He finshed the 500 free with a time of 5:27.16.
Reeder earned the win in the 200 free (1:54.15), while teammate Matt Bauer took third in the event in 2:04.73. Kaylor's event in also came in the freestyle but at the 100-yard distance as a strong finish helped him nip Reeder by .03 seconds in 51:36.
In another strong event for the Saints, McCormick and Keenan Weischedel finished one-two in the 200 breast with times of 2:27.56 and 2:31.70, respectively.
