Potsdam, NY – With 10 more 3-pointers, the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team continued to its hot shooting from long range as the Golden Knights overcame an early deficit to claim a 74-59 victory over SUNY Potsdam on Tuesday night at Maxcy Hall.

The Golden Knights improved to 5-3 overall and will close out the non-conference portion of the schedule on Saturday when they host Morrisville State at Alumni Gymnasium. Potsdam dropped to 1-5 on the season.

Clarkson started off reasonably strong and held a 13-8 lead through the first 7:20 of the game, but the Knights suddenly went cold with a 1-for-6 performance to go along with four turnovers over the next five minutes. Potsdam took advantage with a 12-2 run, getting several easy points from the free throw line. When Clarkson finally shook off that poor stretch, the perimeter players got hot, with Michael Hayduk burying a pair of 3-pointers and Drew Zlogar tossing in a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the Knights a seven-point edge at the break, 35-28.

The Knights continued to make shots at the start of the second half, but Potsdam hung in by getting to the rim with layups and to the free throw line when Clarkson fouled. Potsdam twice pulled to within four points, but Hayduk and Matt Higgins hit 3-pointers from the corner to push Clarkson's lead back to double figures. After seeing the Knights' lead expand to 15 after a Hayduk jumper off the glass, the Bears chipped away and pulled to within 10 with 5:01 remaining when Nosa Onabor made three straight free throws. That proved to the last gasp as Liam Ellis made a short jumper and Drew Zlogar made a 3-pointer near the top of the key to get the game back to 15, a number which proved to be the winning margin.

Zlogar finished with 19 points on 8-for-16 shooting, and he also added four rebounds and three assists for the Knights. Hayduk tossed in 17, going 6-for-10 from the field, and Derek Hart had his fourth straight double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds, adding in three assists and a block. Liam Ellis also was a perfect 4-for-4 from the line, scoring 11 points to go along with six boards and six assists. For Potsdam, Nosa Onabor scored 18 points, but it came chiefly on an 8-for-9 effort from the free throw line as he struggled to shoot only 4-for-15 from the field. Dante Langley was nearly the same, going 5-for-15 for 14 points and seven rebounds. Danny Delsol-Lowry had a double-double with 12 points and 10 boards. Clarkson shot 10-for-21 from the 3-point line, while Potsdam had a decided advantage from the free throw line, making 16 of 19 attempts.
