Six individuals and three relay teams advanced to finals in the first day of the UNYSCSA Championships hosted by Nazareth College. Leading the way for the Saints was junior Casey Abribat who set a new University record in the 200 IM with her time of 2:12.94.
Abribat, who earned eighth place in the prelim, bested her own time of 2.13.66 which she set at last year's state meet.
Also advancing to the finals on the women's team were senior Brynn Hagen in the 200 IM (2:16.52), first-year student Samantha Moffitt in the 50 free (25.22), first-year student Caroline Winslow in the 500 free (5:25.12) and senior Molly Lunn in the 500 free (5:27.64).
The women's team had two groups advanced to the 200 medley relay final. Abribat and Moffitt were joined by sophomores Elizabeth Canne and Natalie Dellinger recorded a time of 1:53.96, while Hagen, Winslow, junior Maria Anselmi and first-year student Zinnia Smith qualified in 1:56.42).
On the men's side, senior Russ Newton was the lone individual Saint to qualify for the finals in today's events. He placed 18th in the 500 free with a time of 4:49.30.
Senior Andrew Hayes, junior Jason Dutra, sophomore Luke Peleggi and first-year student Kirby Kaylor earned a spot in the 200 medley relay final with their time of 1:41.89.
