St. Lawrence University rookie Shayna Davner scored a career-high 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the field, leading the Saints women's basketball team to a 77-33 rout of SUNY Potsdam on Tuesday evening in Potsdam, NY.
The Saints, now 4-2 on the season, outscored the Bears (1-6) by a 42-15 margin in the second half to pull away for the non-conference victory. The visitors' bench, which included Davner, outscored Potsdam by a wide 46-3 margin. The Bears were led offensively by Carli Reynolds' 12 points, while Allison Cady chipped in 14 points for St. Lawrence. Kara McDuffee and Cara Waterson each had nine points for the visitors as well.
St. Lawrence overmatched the Bears on both ends of the floor, as the Saints shot 47% from the field and scored 17 points off of 19 Potsdam turnovers. Meanwhile, the home team struggled from the floor, shooting just 22% including a 2-for-17 mark from behind the arc, and was outrebounded as a team by a 53-28 margin.
Davner was a perfect 3-for-3 from the floor in the first half, joining Cady for seven points each in opening up a 35-18 lead at intermission. St. Lawrence stretched its lead with a steady stream of offense in the second half, pulling away early to secure the win over a North Country rival.
Tuesday's game was the last for the Scarlet and Brown until Tuesday, December 30 when the team plays its final game of the calendar year at the College at Brockport at 2:00pm.
