Geneva, NY – Colder weather and moisture created a slower track than two weeks ago, but the Clarkson University Cross Country team still performed admirably at the Liberty League Championships on Saturday at Seneca Lake State Park.

Both the Golden Knights' men and women finished fifth out of eight teams. Clarkson's women finished fifth with 125 points behind Rensselaer (30), St. Lawrence (46), RIT (71), Vassar (108) and well ahead of William Smith (191), Union (216), and Bard (237). The Golden Knights' men were firmly in fifth with 145 points, behind Rensselaer (22), St. Lawrence (62), Vassar (69), and RIT (89) but ahead of Union (196), Hobart (212) and Bard (260).

Sophomore Alison Davis was the top finisher for Clarkson's women, placing 12th out of 121 runners with a time of 23:55.5 in the 6,000-meter race, an average of a 6:26 mile. Kelley Hull took 21st overall in 24:18.8 and was the sixth freshman to cross the finish line. Sarah Duclos (33rd, 24:43.5), Emilee Carpenter (35th, 24:47.6), and Rachel Jones (44th, 25:01.9) rounded out the Clarkson scoring. Hannah Phillips (47th, 25:10.3) and Ellen Jaworski (50th, 25:12.7) provided back up and would have kept Clarkson in fifth if any of the first five finishers had faltered. Katie Ackner (52nd, 25:20.7) also finished in the top half of the runners on Saturday.

On the men's side, Lukas Patrizio was Clarkson's top runner for the third time in the past four races, closing out the 8,000-meter event in 26:43.2, an average of a 5:23 mile. AJ Beers finished just outside the top 40 by coming in 41st in 27:13.3 and Kris Lizins crossed the finish line seven seconds later in 45th place in 27:20.3. Five more runners finished in the top half of the 128 participants, with Alexander DeWitt (53rd, 27:37.1) and Austin Smith (55th, 27:39.9) scoring in the final two spots for the Knights. Jacob Erdman (57th, 27:49.3), Stephen Paddock (60th, 27:50.8) and Dennis Mooney (63rd, 27:57.3) all produced times that likely would have kept the Knights in fifth place had any disqualifications been issued.
