Canton, NY – Sophomore Alison Davis and freshman Kelley Hull each finished in the top 10 while AJ Beers took 11th in the men's race as the Clarkson University Cross Country put forth a solid effort at the Ronald C. Hoffmann Invitational held on the campus of St. Lawrence University.
The Golden Knights women placed third among five teams with 78 points, trailing St. Lawrence (25) and Plattsburgh State (53) but ahead of LeMoyne (84) and Potsdam State (139). The men were fourth out of six teams, though second through fourth was tight. Clarkson's men had 78 points, behind St. Lawrence (18), Plattsburgh State (70), LeMoyne (73) and above Potsdam State (148) and Jefferson Community College (188).
Davis's seventh place showing was the best of her career when considering the quality of participants, as she was in the top 10 percent of the 70 racers with a time of 23:32.12 (6:18.8 average mile) on the 6,000-meter course. Kelley Hull took ninth in 23:36.65 (6:20 average mile) and sophomore Sarah Duclos finished in the top 20, coming in 18th in 24:03.63. Emilee Carpenter (22nd, 24:22.93) and Rachael Jones (27th, 24:36.84) rounded out the Clarkson scoring, while sophomore Katie Ackner (32nd, 25:09.53) and Hannah Phillips (33rd, 25:15.86) were there to back up the Knights' effort.
On the men's side, Clarkson had three participants place in the top 20 among the 107 competitors in the 8,000-meter race. Beers came in 11th in 26:42.14 (an average of 5:22.3 per mile) to lead the way for the Knights. Lukas Patrizio took 15th in 27:17.76 (5:29.5 average mile) and Kris Lizins raced to a 19th-place finish in 27:29.26. Austin Smith (23rd, 27:35.50) and Stephen Paddock (26th, 27:53.71) closed out the Clarkson top five scorers. Jacob Erdman (31st, 28:01.23), Alex DeWitt (32nd, 28:06.18) and Chase Weaver (33rd, 28:14.52) provided ample depth if any of the others had been disqualified.
