Senior Amy Cymerman became the third St. Lawrence University woman to finish in the top ten in a NCAA Division III Championship cross country race, helping the Saint team to a 10th place finish in the 2013 nationals at Hanover College in Indiana on Saturday.

Cymerman ran the 6 kilometer course in 21:32.0 to finish 10th overall, joining two-time national champion Wendy Pavlus and Johanna Ludington as the only Saints to record top-10 finishes at the championship race. Cymerman was 21 seconds behind individual champion Chelsea Johnson of St. Scholastica, who won in 21:11.7, just over 10 seconds in front of the second place finisher.

"Obviously Amy had an outstanding race…the third best finish we've ever had in NCAA competition behind Wendy and Johanna, who had a top ten finish in 2009," said Saint coach Mike Howard. "Amy ran an incredible race. It was nice to see her bounce back from a really good race last week, but a race that she didn't feel she was 100 percent. Today she laid it all out there."

Johns Hopkins won the team title with 85 points with Williams second and Middlebury third. Atlantic Regional champion NYU was sixth while the Saints were the second team from the region and finished with 363 points. It was the third straight top ten finish for the Saint team which was seventh last year and eighth in 2011.

"We had seven All Americans from the Atlantic Region which shows how strong the region is," Howard added. "And the team finished tenth, and our goal at the start of the season was to finish in the top ten in the country. We've had to endure some ups and downs this year with some injuries and sickness, but for the team to finish tenth was really an awesome finish. It was a great day all the way around."

Cymerman was 19th early in the race, but moved up eighth at the mid-point of the race and was ninth heading into the final kilometer. First year Lisa Grohn was the second Saint finisher, 62nd overall in 22:19.5 after a steady move through the 279 runner field. Grohn was 91st at the first check point of the race, but moved up to 73rd at the 2.9 mile point and passed another 11 runners in the final kilometer. Grohn was the seventh first-year finisher in the race. Cymerman scored seventh, and Grohn 44th in the team competition.

Anne Martino was the third Saint finisher, 92nd overall, scoring 68th in 22:35.4 while Ariel Beccia was 119th (scoring 89th) in 22:45.1 and Anna Rabideau completed the Saint scoring with a 204th place finish (scoring 155th) in 23:24.0. Toria Koutras was the sixth Saint finisher in 23:50.8 while Kelsey Leder was the seventh Saint runner, 273rd overall in 24:51.3.
