St. Lawrence University's 2013 women's cross country team will look to a pair of senior veterans for leadership as it seeks to continue a run of league, state and regional championships into a fifth straight year.

Coach Mike Howard announced that seniors Ariel Beccia and Amy Cymerman will captain the 2013 Saints for the upcoming season.

"Amy is coming off a tremendous season as a junior and is one of the top returning runners in the region and Ariel was a consistent top five finisher for us throughout last year," Howard said. "They will set an outstanding example for the rest of the team both with their abilities and with their work ethic."

The Saints won five meets and were second in another in 2012 and swept the Liberty League, NYSCTC and NCAA Atlantic Regional Championships for the fourth straight year. They went on to finish seventh in the NCAA championship, their third top ten finish in the last four seasons.

Beccia, a captain for the second straight year, battled through injury late in her junior season, but was the fifth Saint scorer in the NCAA Division III Championships as she finished 120th overall. She was sixth in the NYSCTC Championship, the third Saint finisher and sixth overall in the Ronald C. Hoffmann Invitational and was fifth in the season-opening Cardinal Invitational at Plattsburgh.

Cymerman emerged as the Saint star in the stretch run of the 2012 season. A consistent top three or four finisher in the first three meets of the season, she finished second in the NYSCTC Championship, won the Liberty League title and then won the Atlantic Regional Championship to earn NCAA Atlantic Regional Runner of the Year honors. She was the third Saint scorer, 108th overall, at the NCAA Championship.
