Canton, NY – Junior Trevor LaBrecque backed up his first round 74 with a three-over par 75 on Sunday to lead the Clarkson University Golf team to a third-place finish at the annual St. Lawrence Invitational held at Oliver D. Appleton Golf Course this weekend.
The Golden Knights finished 14 strokes off the pace with a score of 613, shaving five strokes off their score from Saturday (309-304). New York University won the event with a score of 599 and was followed by Hamilton (606). The Green and Gold were well ahead of St. Lawrence (637), St. Lawrence B (642), Utica (650), St. Lawrence C (672), SUY Canton (685), SUNY Potsdam (718) and Paul Smiths (730).
LaBrecque began the day tied for fourth, but actually edged up a spot and finished in a tie for third overall among the 54 participants with a two-day score of 149, just three strokes behind the medalist of the tournament.
Thomas Conroy started the day in 28th, but raced up the leaderboard with a second-day score of 73, tied for second among all golfers on Sunday. He finished with a 155, tying for 12th. He was tied with teammates Cameron Anthony (77-78-155) and Mike DiPaola (77-78-155), who each played as individuals and were out of the team scoring. Tied for 16th place were senior Brad Belote (75-81-156) and Chris Rust (81-75-156), with their Sunday results accounting for the rest of Clarkson's 304-stroke total. Andrew Leek also finished in the top half of the field, placing in a tie for 25th with a score of 162 (79-83).
