For the first time this season, the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team was on the losing end of the score as the Golden Knights fall to Oswego 1-0 on Friday afternoon.
Clarkson falls to 4-1-0 so far while Oswego is 3-1-0.
Clarkson almost took the lead in the fifth minute when Giulia Mahoney's shot hit the crossbar. The Golden Knights again hit the bar in the 18th minute, this time off a shot from Lauren Flynn. Overall, Clarkson had a 9-5 shot advantage in the first half, but neither team could break the deadlock.
In the second half, Oswego began to take control of the game. The Lakers took the first five shots of the second half and finally broke through on their sixth. The goal came in the 62nd minute when Audrey Burbidge sent a free kick into the top left corner of the goal.
Clarkson fought to tie the game and had a chance with just 13 seconds remaining, but Summer Gillespie's shot was saved to close out the game.
Oswego finished with a 16-11 advantage in shots. The Lakers took six corner kicks while the Green and Gold took three. Elyse Green made four saves in goal for Clarkson while Melissa Siegfried had four stops for Oswego.
Clarkson will quickly have a chance to bounce back as the Golden Knights travel to Nazareth tomorrow for a 1:00 pm game.
