Potsdam, NY – From one end of the field to the other the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team put forth a dominant effort against Utica College on Saturday afternoon, downing the Pioneers 11-1 with an overwhelming performance at Hantz Turf Field.

The Golden Knights improved to 2-1 on the season and will now head to Tennessee for the team's spring trip. Utica fell to 2-2.

Saturday's contest marked just the fourth time in the past 15 seasons that the Golden Knights held an opponent to one goal or fewer. In 2014, Clarkson shutout St. Joseph (17-0) and the Knights held Cazenovia to a single goal in 2004 (17-1) and Potsdam State to one score in 2002 (15-1).

Clarkson would have all it would need just five minutes into the game as Taylor Collins and Casey Shannon each connected in the early going. Ashley Flick scored two more times within the first 10 minutes to give the Knights a 4-0 lead. Utica got its one and only goal at the 19:22 mark, but the Knights responded with two more goals in the next two-plus minutes and the rout was on. Though Clarkson scored just one more time in the first half, on a free position shot from Christina Pollard at the 6:45 mark, the Golden Knights thoroughly dominated the Pioneers in virtually every aspect of the game. The Knights held an 18-4 edge in shots and forced the Pioneers into 11 turnovers.

Though the peripheral statistics were even in the second 30-minute stretch, Clarkson's defense continued to deny Utica many legitimate opportunities at the goal. When the Pioneers did create enough space for a shot Samantha Gladd was able to deny the chances, making seven saves in 50-plus minutes of action. Carrie Yurkon finished off the final nine minutes in goal for Clarkson and also made a save in her time in the crease. The team-wide defensive effort more than made up for Clarkson's modest offensive showing in the second half, which included a goal by Christine Wright and the final three tallies from Ashley Flick.

Clarkson finished with a 25-10 edge in shots and a 25-16 lead in groundballs. Flick scored five goals and Wright produced five points on two goals and three assists. Kate Dillon recorded a goal and two assists, while Collins, Shannon and Pollard each scored once. Stephanie Lynch also notched an assist.

For Utica, Rebecca Plunkett had the lone goal with the assist going to Brooke Miller. Briana Estabrook had four caused turnovers and three groundballs, and Utica goaltender Kells Casey made nine stops.
