Potsdam, NY – With about a minute to go in the game, Ashley Loggins nailed both of her free throws to give the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team its first lead of the contest against Union, and the Golden Knights were able to hold off the Dutchwomen in a 59-57 thriller on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights improved to 17-4 overall and 10-2 in the Liberty League, winning their 12th straight game, marking the program's second longest winning streak ever. Union dropped to 14-6 overall and 8-4 in conference games.

The Dutchwomen took it to Clarkson in the first quarter, breaking the Knights' press and getting many two-on-one looks on the break. Union shot 8-for-12 in the first quarter, while Clarkson struggled and was able to stay in the contest by making a handful of free throws. It was more of the same in the second quarter as the two teams matched their first quarter efficiency, putting Union up 38-24 at the half.

The Dutchmen continued their dominance in the early part of the second half, extending their lead to 15 (43-28), but Clarkson went on a 9-0 run to get back into the contest, and the margin was still just six points at the end of the third. The Knights chipped away at the start of the fourth and were within two points after a Stephanie Grobe jumper at the 7:12 mark. Three minutes later the Knights were within one (54-53) on an Alyssia Marsal layup, and another conversion by Marsal with 1:53 to go tied the game up at 57-57. With about a minute to go, Ashley Loggins buried both of her free throws to give the Knights their first lead of the contest. Union had a chance to take the lead on its final possession when Amy Fisher took a 3-pointer from the elbow extended, and the tie up underneath gave the Dutchwomen one more shot with 3.1 seconds remaining. However, on the inbound there was another tie up as Marsal anticipated the pass in the lane, giving Clarkson possession and the win.

Ashley Loggins finished with another double-double, going for 21 points and 11 boards with a 9-9 effort from the free throw line. Devin Sorell also tossed in 11 points and Alyssia Marsal added in nine points and seven rebounds. For Union, Erin Lyons had a double-double on 11 points and 10 rebounds, going 4-for-5 from the floor, and Sophie Borg had a team-high 14 points on 6-for-6 shooting.
