Potsdam, NY – There weren't many pretty moments on Tuesday night at Alumni Gymnasium, but the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team got the job done in a 53-35 victory over SUNY Canton.

The Golden Knights improved to 3-1 on the season and are off until after the Thanksgiving break. SUNY Canton dropped to 0-3.

Neither team was lighting the world aflame in the first quarter with their shooting prowess as the Knights struggled to make just two shots on 19 attempts and Canton wasn't much better, going 4-for-14. The Knights held a slim 9-8 lead after 10 minutes, but found a little bit of offense in the second quarter and pushed their advantage to double figures at the break. Clarkson forced Canton into 19 turnovers, making 12 steals, but it came at a cost as three of the Golden Knights' starters were forced to sit due to three fouls apiece.

In the second half, Clarkson continued to have foul trouble as two of its starters quickly picked up their fourth fouls (Alyssia Marsal, Stephanie Grobe), but the Golden Knights' bench picked up the slack admirably. Tricia Loso contributed eight points off the bench, while Kati Gotch tossed in five points with four rebounds and Ashley Hill scored four, including a buzzer beater at the end of the third quarter.

Overall, Clarkson shot just 20-for-71 from the field, but its defense more than made up for the 28.2% rate. The Knights forced Canton into 34 turnovers and produced 21 steals. Madison Shea had seven steals, six rebounds and five assists while Marsal recorded five steals to go along with eight points and five rebounds in just 15 minutes of action. Devin Sorell led the team with 10 points, while Molly Stewart matched Loso and Marsal with eight points. For SUNY Canton, Jenifer Morgan-Aubin scored 14 points and Taylor Saltus had six points, 10 rebounds and four assists. Randi Conway was held scoreless, but produced 12 rebounds. Canton outrebounded Clarkson 50-40.
