In a rematch of the 2016 NCAA Quarterfinals, the eighth-ranked Clarkson University Women's Hockey team knocked off fifth-ranked Quinnipiac 4-1 on Friday night.

Clarkson is now 7-3-1 overall and 3-0-0 in ECAC Hockey while Quinnipiac is 7-3-1 and 2-1-0 in conference.

"Tonight was a great effort by the team," stated Head Coach Matt Desrosiers. "We did a good job sticking to the game plan and really worked hard for that win. Those are two big points for us to gain on the road. We have another tough game tomorrow so hopefully the confidence our team was able to gain today carries over into tomorrow's game."

For nearly the first two periods, the game resembled the two 2016 postseason contests between Clarkson and Quinnipiac as neither team was able to create many offensive chances.

However, at 12:23 in the middle frame the Golden Knights were able to break the deadlock. The goal came on a power-play with Josiane Pozzebon getting the goal. Rhyen McGill and Ella Shelton picked up assists on the goal.

Clarkson doubled its lead just 2:49 into the third period when Corie Jacobson scored an unassisted goal. The Green and Gold moved even further ahead when Jessica Gillham scored at 6:36 with Shelton and co-captain Savannah Harmon had the assists.

Quinnipiac grabbed a life-line at 10:14 when Kati Tabin scored for the Bobcats. The comeback hopes were extinguished though at 19:03 when Cayley Mercer nabbed Clarkson's fourth goal with Michaela Pejzlova getting the assist. Clarkson's four goals are the most the Golden Knights have scored against Quinnipiac since banging home six in the ECAC Semifinals on March 8th, 2014.

Clarkson finished with a 21-16 advantage in shots and was one of three on power-play opportunities with kills on both of Quinnipiac's extra man opportunities. Shea Tiley finished with 15 saves for her second career win against the Bobcats.

Clarkson will continue its road trip by heading to New Jersey to take on tenth-ranked Princeton on Saturday afternoon.
