New Paltz, NY - Though the offense wasn't clicking in complete harmony, the Clarkson University Volleyball team had enough in its first match of the day to take down New Paltz Invitational host SUNY New Paltz in three straight sets before dropping a four-set decision to Stevens Institute of Technology on Friday.
The Golden Knights saw their record move to 3-3 with the split. Clarkson will face New York University and Stockton University on Saturday afternoon before beginning conference play next weekend. Clarkson took own New Paltz in three straight sets (25-21, 26-24, 25-18) but lost in four sets in the nightcap against the Ducks (25-17, 22-25, 25-21, 25-20).
Clarkson had just six more kills (26) than errors (20) in its match against New Paltz, but that made the Knights the better of the two offenses as the Hawks hit negative (-.014) for the match thanks to a 34-36-144 line. Kate Isaksen led both teams with 22 digs, averaging better than seven per set, to lead the Golden Knights, while Katrina Lane and Kendall Cheval each chipped in nine digs on the defensive side of things. Rachael Aird received just 15 swings, but made the most of them by contributing six kills with just one error while also adding in three total blocks. Rachel Reusch also had four blocks, including three solo efforts, and Jillian Saenz produced 17 assists and nine digs against the Hawks. For New Paltz, Anna Paulik had a double-double on 11 kills and 14 digs, as did Maddie Zwickl with 29 assists and 11 digs. Veronica Matedero led the team with 20 digs and Brittany Tyack contributed four block assists.
