For the second day in a row, the Clarkson University Baseball team dropped two close games to RIT. This time, Clarkson fell by the scores of 1-0 and 7-4 at MCC on Saturday afternoon.

Clarkson is now 3-11 overall this season and 0-4 in conference while RIT is 8-4 with a 4-0 Liberty League record.

Once again the first game of the doubleheader was a classic pitcher's duel. For Clarkson, it was Ted Wilson who repeated Ian Castle's feat of shutting RIT out through the first six innings of the game. Unfortunately for Clarkson, Brandon Cohall, RIT's pitcher, matched Wilson inning for inning. RIT finally broke through in the top of the seventh with a two out rally. The one run that RIT scored on Zach Zabel's RBI triple stood as the game-winner as Cohall completed a three hit shutout. Wilson took the loss with a final line of seven innings pitched, allowing one run on five hits with five strikeouts.

In the second game, Clarkson took an early lead. In the first inning, Chris Miller got Clarkson on the board. Miller led off the inning by reaching third base on an error and then scampered home on a passed ball. Clarkson doubled its lead with a run in the second when Alex Padrazo singled, stole second and then scored on an RBI single by Alex Lavigne. After RIT got one run back in the third, Clarkson added two more in its half of the inning. Mike Bonk led off the inning with a single and then Miller doubled to put runners on second and third. Dom Pirro hit a sacrifice fly to score Bonk and then Miller scored on Greg Jasek's single up the middle.

That was all the scoring for Clarkson though and RIT quickly chipped away at the lead. The Tigers tied the score at four with three runs in the fourth on three hits, but Mike Bubniak came in to pitch and struck out the final batter of the inning to strand three RIT runners. The relief was short lived though as RIT took the lead in the top of the fifth with two runs on two hits. The Tigers added one more insurance run in the ninth for a final margin of 7-4.

Padrazo was the only Clarkson hitter with multiple hits in the game and he also added a pair of walks. Andrew Smith pitched the first three and one third innings, allowing three earned runs on six hits. Bubniak pitched the next inning and took the loss with a final line of two runs on two hits, two walks, and two strikeouts. Rory Corcoran had one walk on the mound and the Will Coleman pitched the final four and two third innings, allowing one earned run on two hits and eight strikeouts.

Clarkson will take a break from conference play when it travels to Farmingdale State for four games next weekend.
