In a wild, rollercoaster of a game, the Clarkson University Baseball team started ahead, fell behind, and then came back to take a 13-12 win over Rensselaer in 10 innings in Clermont, Florida on Friday morning.

Clarkson leaves Florida with a 3-7 record on the season, while Rensselaer fell to 1-12.

Consecutive doubles by Greg Jasek and Brad Pearson staked Clarkson to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. In the blink of an eye though, the Golden Knights had fallen behind as Rensselaer scored once in the first and then seven times in the bottom of the second.

Clarkson grabbed one run in the top of the third when a Pearson ground out allowed Anthony Padrazo to score, but the Engineers answered with another run in the fourth.

Clarkson's comeback began in earnest in the top of the sixth. Jasek led off with a walk before Pearson and Dom Pirro singled to load the bases. Will Coleman then hit a deep triple to left field, scoring all three runners. Coleman then raced home on a wild pitch. Vincent Granuzzo singled to keep the rally going and then took second on another wild pitch. Alex Lavigne then hit a one out double to give Clarkson second and third with only one out. Padrazo singled to score Granuzzo and then a long fly ball by Chris Miller allowed Lavigne to score the sixth run of the inning.

After one more Rensselaer run in the bottom of the sixth, Jasek scored in the top of the seventh on a Granuzzo single to tie the game at 10. However, the Engineers were not rattled and scored two runs of their own to regain the lead in the bottom of the seventh.

With two outs in the eighth, Clarkson had runners on first and second. Pearson came through once again, lining a double to right field that scored Lavigne and Miller to tie the game once again.

Neither team could score in the ninth inning so the two teams went into an extra frame. Clarkson took the lead in the tenth. Miller led off the inning with a single and then advanced on a bunt. Pearson moved him up with single and then another Coleman single with two outs drove Miller home for the game-winning run. Ted Wilson worked around an RPI hit in the bottom of the tenth inning and closed the door for his second win of the year.

Eddie Miller started the game on the mound for Clarkson, but lasted just one and two thirds innings. Andrew Smith relieved him and allowed four runs on six hits in four and two thirds innings. Wilson pitched the final three and two thirds innings, scattering just six hits.

Pearson had hits in four of his six at-bats and knocked in four runs. Granuzzo also had four hits in five chances while Miller had a trio of hits.

Clarkson will next play up north when the Green and Gold travel to RIT for the start of conference play.
