Cristaldi sets new career scoring standard for Clarkson women's lacrosse

In the last decade, the Clarkson University Women’s Lacrosse team has had its all-time scoring record change a number of times as the Golden Knights program has seen a number of talented offensive players graduate from the program. The name on the top of the leaderboard might have to be put into ink as opposed to pencil, as junior Alyssa Cristaldi (North Syracuse, NY) required just 39 games to surpass the previous all-time total compiled just two years ago.

A strong game against SUNY Canton last Tuesday put the junior attacker in line to break the mark over the course of the weekend, but Cristaldi wouldn’t need both games to reach the mark, surpassing the previous total of 173, set by former teammate Kimberly Loucks in 2010, against William Smith College on Friday afternoon.

“Any time that a player breaks a career record, it’s a memorable accomplishment, but the fact that Cristaldi broke it in her junior year is that much more impressive,” said fourth-year head coach Kathryn Durki. “She will now be breaking her own record with every point she scores for the rest of her career, and the final total will be a tough figure for anyone to reach in the future.”

Cristaldi broke in as a freshman in a big way for the Golden Knights, setting Clarkson single-season records for points (66) and assists (22) and then tacked on 54 mores points as a sophomore. She has already rushed past her output last season with 57 points in 2012, scoring 39 goals and 18 assists this year. Clarkson has two more regular season games coming up this weekend against conference opponents Bard College and Vassar College.

For her career, Cristaldi has recorded 121 goals and 56 assists, with the assist total also setting a new Clarkson career standard. She is still well short of the goals mark, but has an excellent chance of surpassing that mark as well early in the 2013 season.
