Crawford wins three events as Saints men capture track Invitational title

Sophomore Nick Crawford won three individual events and ran on a winning relay team to lead St. Lawrence University's men's indoor track and field team to a one-sided victory in the eight-team St. Lawrence Indoor Invitational at the Newell Field House on Saturday.

Crawford started his day with a win in the high jump, clearing 1.98 meters on his second try at the height. He then won the 400 meters in 50.11 seconds, meeting ECAC qualifying standards and came back to win the 200 meters in 22.80. He finished out his day, worth 32.5 points to the Saints in the team score, with a solid second position leg on the 4x200 relay which won in 1:32.57, just two seconds off the Saint team record.

SLU finished the meet with 186 points with Brockport second with 155 and Ottawa third with 123 in a ten team field.

Senior sprinter Omaru Kabia also had a strong performance for the Saints, winning the 60 in 7.20 seconds and anchoring the 4x200 meter team while his sophomore brother Alimamy won the long jump with a 6.47 meter jump and was third in the triple just at 12.78 meters. Other members of the 4x200 team were Adrian Wilson and Karim Creary.

Other Saint winners in Saturday's meet included senior Brendan Courneene, who won the 5000 meters in 15:45.28, sophomore Harrison Sloan, who won the 800 in 1:55.82, freshman Joe Smith, who captured the 1000 in 2:37.72 and junior Scott Smolensky, who won the 3000 meters in 8:48.38 with rookie Thomas Caulfield second.

Wesley Kirui was third in the mile with Spencer Patterson finishing sixth and Kirui came back to take third in the 1000 with Patterson finishing fourth. Creary was third in the 60 and fourth in the triple jump in addition to his relay finish while Wilson was fifth in the 400 and third in the 200.

Scott Kasson was sixth in both the shot and the weight for the Saints while Brian Kane added a third in the high jump.

The Saint Distance Medley Relay was third in 11:46.12 with a team of William Manning, Jon Eng, Alec MacCrory and Smith and the Saint 4x400 relay was fourth.
