Crawford has big Saturday for Saints at NYSCTC Championship

St. Lawrence University senior Nick Crawford finished second in the 400 hurdles and jumped into the top eight nationally in that event to highlight the Saint men's track and field team's day at the New York State Collegiate Track Conference Outdoor Championship at RPI on Saturday.

Crawford ran 53.44 to go from 20th in the national rankings in the 400 hurdles to the top eight. He also anchored two second place relays, the 4x400 relay team, joining Travis Hamre, Harrison Stivers and Dan Viscardi to run 3:19.25 and the 4x100 with Gordon White, Stivers and Hamre, which ran 42.68.

The Saint team finished fifth in a 13-team field as host RPI won the meet with 146.5 points followed by Rochester with 120, Utica with 119.5 and Ithaca with 119. The Saints finished with 77 points.

Thomas Caulfield finished fifth in the 5000 in 14:59.70 and was eighth in the 1500 in 4:01.19. Mark Jannini scored in the 110 hurdles with a seventh in 16.03 and Stivers was sixth in 49.08 and Hamre eighth in the 400 in 50.44. Evan Garvey was sixth in the 800 in 1:56.83 while Viscardi finished fourth in the 400 hurdles in 56.42. Sidi Abdoulaye was ninth in the 5000.

In Saturday field performances, Scott Kasson was fifth in the shot at 14.48 while Sebastian Quintilliani finished 10th in the triple jump and 13th in the high jump. Scott DeBoer was 14th in the discus.

The Saints will run at St. John Fisher next weekend.
