ITHACA -- Despite another two-goal comeback for the No. 16 St. Lawrence men's hockey team, the Saints fell on the road for the first time in ECAC Hockey play this season, losing 3-2 to No. 14/15 Cornell on Saturday night.

Ben Finkelstein had a goal and an assist for the Saints, while his defensive partner Nolan Gluchowski also recorded a multi-point game with two helpers. First-year Sam Kauppila earned his first collegiate point with an assist on the Finkelstein goal.

It appeared the Saints had extended their streak of games with a power play goal to nine less than three minutes into the first period, but the goal by junior Ryan Lough was called back after the referees determined he had kicked the rebound behind Cornell goaltender Mitch Gillam.

Less than two minutes later, the Big Red took advantage and took the lead with Jared Fiegl's goal at the 4:14 mark from Beau Starrett and Dwyer Tschantz.

Patrick McCarron extended the lead to 2-0 for Cornell with a high shot stick side on St. Lawrence netminder Kyle Hayton and the Big Red took the two-goal lead into the second period.

But at the 8:54 mark of the middle frame, the Saints chipped away with Finkelstein's second of the weekend and third in as many games to cut the deficit in half. The South Burlington, Vt. native beat Gilliam shortside with a flat-angle shot from the bottom of the right circle with Gluchowski and Kauppila assisting.

Thirty seconds later, the Saints were tasked with killing a five-minute major after senior defenseman Ben Masella was assessed the penalty and a game misconduct for elbowing. They limited Cornell to just four shots on the ensuing power play.

With momentum in their corner after the kill, the Saints tied the game at 2-2 as senior Woody Hudson tipped a floating shot from Gluchowski at 15:49 for his second of the game. It is the second goal of the season for Hudson, who missed Friday's game at Colgate due to illness.

The tie lasted less than two minutes before Cornell capitalized on a turnover on the half-wall in the Saints' zone and Brendan Smith beat Hayton with the game winner.

Gillam finished with 22 saves for Cornell, while Hayton made 27 stops for the Saints.

St. Lawrence, now 13-7-6 and 9-2-3 in ECAC Hockey, returns to Appleton Arena next weekend after playing its last seven games on the road. The Saints went 3-2-2 during that stretch. They'll host RPI on Friday, Jan. 27 and No. 9 Union on Jan. 28.
