St. Lawrence University's field hockey team scored a pair of first half goals and sophomore goaltender Brady Cooper made them stand up for a 2-0 victory over St. John Fisher as the Saints won their second straight at Hall-Leet Stadium on North Country Field Tuesday afternoon.

Cooper, who had not played field hockey prior to this season, was thrust into the starter role when 2011 All Liberty League goalie Nicole Matos was sidelined by injury. Cooper recorded her first collegiate shutout with a 17-save game against Fisher, snapping a four-game Cardinal win streak, and has not allowed a goal in her last two starts, both Saint wins.

Junior Grace O'Neil scored her third goal of the season and the game winner when she opened the scoring as the Saints converted after a penalty corner 7:50 into the game. Emma Berry took the initial shot after O'Neil put the ball in play from the end line and O'Neil was in position to deflect it past Fisher goalie Danielle Famolaro.

The Saints made it a 2-0 game, again off a penalty corner as Berry controlled the ball at the top of the circle and slid a pass to her right to sophomore Ali Ferenczy who one-timed a bullet into the far corner for her first goal of the year with 19:20 left in the half.

Cooper kept it scoreless through the half, making nine saves with six of the nine coming in two sequences against St. John Fisher. She made three saves in a 12 second stretch midway through the first half and had another three-save flurry with just under seven minutes to go. She added another eight saves in the second half to establish her career high.

Fisher ended up with a 27-21 overall edge in shots with Famolaro finishing with eight saves. The Saints had ten penalty corners to eight for the Cardinals, now 4-6.

The Saints will return to action at Geneseo on Saturday while St. John Fisher is at Hartwick.
