BUTLER, Penn. - The SUNY Canton softball team was scheduled to play a doubleheader against Penn State Greater Allegheny on Saturday. But Mother Nature intervened and due to snowy field conditions the two teams only played one game and the Roos came away with a convincing 19-2 win.
The late-day contest was tied 2-2 after one inning, but it was all SUNY Canton from that point on as the Roos scored four runs in the top of the second and then put the game out of reach with an eight-run third inning.
Junior Andrea Rogers (Munnsville, N.Y.) led the Roos offensive attack finishing 3-for-3 with four runs and three RBIs including a two-run inside the park home run. Senior Amanda Bitting (Stillwater, N.Y.) went 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and three runs. Junior Allie Gibson (Tonawanda, N.Y.) added three RBIs and two runs and sophomore Jessica Rhodes (Alpine, N.Y.) contributed a triple and two RBIs.
Senior Tina DeLuca (Fresh Meadows, N.Y.) posted the win on the mound as she struck out six batters over five innings scattering seven hits.
Jordyn Holsing laced a pair of singles for Allegheny.
The two teams are schedule to play another doubleheader on Sunday at Pullman Park in Butler with the first game starting at 3 p.m. and the second game commencing 20 minutes after the conclusion of game one.
