The St. Lawrence University men's lacrosse team lost its final contest of the 2011 season on Saturday to Hamilton College by the score of 10-6 at Hall-Leet Stadium in Canton, NY.  Junior captain Caldwell Rohrbach had a game-high five points (2g,3a), but the Saints were unable to overcome 22 turnovers and nine failed clears against the Continentals.

Prior to the game, St. Lawrence honored its six members of the Class of 2011 on "Senior Day," including Chris Palmer, captain Stephen Vaughan, Alex Preston, Greg Reagan, Harry Johnson and student-assistant coach Casey Coons.  Hamilton finishes its season with an 11-3 overall record, while the Saints close at 4-10.  St. Lawrence finished with a 38-34 advantage in shots and a narrow 11-9 lead in face-offs.

Sophomore Davey Hovey added two goals for St. Lawrence, while classmate Justin Ingram and junior Drake Paul each added one.  Sophomore goalie Jack Nuland made 12 saves for St. Lawrence, while Max Vaickus stopped 15 shots for the Continentals.  The Liberty League's leading scorer, Jon Leanos from Hamilton, added three points (2g,1a) to his season total, closing the campaign with 64 points.

St. Lawrence held a 2-1 advantage after 15:00 minutes of play thanks to goals from Hovey and Ingram, while Henry Burchenal's man-up goal got Hamilton on the board.  However, the visitors rattled off four straight goals in a span of 2:13 to take a 5-2 advantage in a dominant second quarter.  Burchenal tied it at 2-2 before Leanos, Luke Sisler and Pax Anthos followed to give Hamilton a three-goal lead.

Though Rohrbach scored his first goal with 6:33 left in the second quarter to get the Saints back to within two at 5-3, Burchenal followed only 29 seconds later to cap the first half scoring to put Hamilton ahead 6-3 at intermission.

The Scarlet and Brown battled back early in the third quarter with back-to-back goals from Rohrbach and Hovey to get the home team within one at 6-5 with 9:38 to play in the stanza.  However, Hamilton would respond with three straight goals to close the quarter to push its lead to four at 9-5.  Chris Whelan, Leanos and Anthos were the third quarter goal scorers for the Continentals.

Despite St. Lawrence outshooting Hamilton 14-4 in the fourth quarter, it was the visitors who tacked a goal on at 2:32 from Luke Sisler to push their advantage to 10-5.  Though Paul scored with 9:37 to go, the Saints were unable to beat Vaickus again and fell by the final score of 10-6.

Both teams finished with 23 ground balls, but St. Lawrence struggled with clears (14-of-23) and turnovers.  The Saints also were only 1-of-6 on man-up tries while Hamilton finished 1-of-3.
