POTSDAM, N.Y.—Hamilton College (5-4-2) scored three quick goals en route to a 6-0 victory over the SUNY Potsdam women's hockey team (4-8-1) on Tuesday afternoon. Continentals sophomore forward Katie Parkman (Stratford, Prince Edward Island/Brewster Academy) scored twice and recorded an assist, while sophomore defenseman Sara Taffe (Maple Grove, Minn./St. Margaret's School) added two goals.
Parkman slid home a shot from the slot just 15 seconds into the contest and Hamilton never looked back. Parkman struck again on a similar play at the 3:11 mark. Senior defenseman Courtney Power (Oakville, Ontario/Appleby College) tipped home a shot from the point at 9:03 to make it 3-0.
At 3:38 of the second period Taffe scored with a wrister from the right faceoff circle for a power-play goal. Exactly four minutes later, sophomore forward Teal Gosselin (Franklin, Mass./St. Mark's School) buried a loose puck at the right goal post for another power-play tally and a 5-0 advantage.
The Bears picked up their play in the third period, outshooting the Continentals 14-7. However, it was Hamilton tacking on a final goal. At 16:51, Taffe finished a pretty passing play in the slot.
In goal, Potsdam junior Abby Tardelli was tagged with the loss after allowing the first three goals in the opening 9:03. Junior Alexane Rodrigue (Monkland, Ontario/Bemidji State) allowed three goals and made 23 saves in the final 50:57. Continentals senior goalie Sarah Schuchardt (Verona, Wis./Philips Academy) make eight saves in the first 25:25 to earn the win. Freshman Yvonne Rondeau (Chicopee, Mass./Northfield Mount Hermon) stopped all 18 shots she faced in the final 34:35.
Hamilton edged the Bears in shots, 30-26, and went 2-for-3 on the man advantage. Potsdam was 0-for-3.
The Bears return to ECAC West play this Friday when they begin a two-game series with SUNY Cortland. The puck drops at 7 p.m. on Friday and 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
