In his newly-appointed role, Clark primarily will work with young players throughout the Blue Jackets organization, assisting with the development of prospects playing in the professional minor leagues, various major junior leagues and college hockey.

“Chris Clark was a proven leader throughout his playing career who earned everything he got by working his way up from college hockey to the American Hockey League and then onto the NHL,” said Columbus Executive Vice President and General Manager Scott Howson. “He will be able to pass on his knowledge from his 13-year professional playing career to our young players and prospects.”

Clark, 36, registered 103 goals and 111 assists for 214 points along with 700 penalty minutes in 607 career NHL games with the Calgary Flames, Washington Capitals and Columbus.

Calgary’s third pick, 77th overall, in the 1994 Entry Draft, Clark earned All-ECAC honors during four seasons at Clarkson from 1994-98. He spent six seasons in the Flames organization from 1998-04, including 2003-04 when he collected 25 points (10-15) and 106 penalty minutes in 82 games and added three goals and six points, and 30 penalty minutes in 26 playoff games to help the Calgary reach the Stanley Cup Final.

The South Windsor, Connecticut native spent four-plus seasons with Washington, tallying 123 points (60-63) and 278 penalty minutes in 240 games with the club and serving as the Capitals captain from 2006-09. Clark appeared in 89 games with Columbus between 2009-11 and notched eight goals and 12 assists, and 59 penalty minutes while serving as an alternate captain.

Clark joins Dave Taylor ’77, Craig Conroy (1990-94) and Todd Marchant (1991-93) as former Clarkson standouts who now currently work in NHL front-offices. Taylor serves as the Director of Player Personnel for the St. Louis Blues, Conroy acts as Special Assistant to the General Manager for Calgary and Marchant is Director of Player Development for the Anaheim Ducks.

Former Golden Knight player, coach and athletic director Bill O’Flaherty '71 was the Director of Pro Scouting for the Florida Panthers. Jarmo Kekalainen ‘89 acted as the St. Louis Blues’ Assistant General Manager and Director of Amateur Scouting. Mike Smith ’67 was the Director of Hockey Operations for the Chicago Blackhawks and also served in the front offices of the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Winnipeg Jets.

Craig Laughlin ’80 has been the television color analyst for Washington Capitals games since 1990.
