Potsdam, NY – Sophomore John Coleman (Potsdam, NY) produced a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds as the Clarkson University Men’s Basketball team recorded a season-high in points in a 93-70 victory over Paul Smith’s College Tuesday night at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights improved to 5-1 overall on the season and will close out the first semester with a game at the College of St. Joseph (VT) on Friday. Paul Smith’s fell to 2-8 on the season.

The Bobcats hung in the contest in the early going thanks to a torrid performance from the perimeter that saw them hit five of their first seven 3-point field goal attempts. Paul Smith’s had the lead (21-20) midway through the first half, but a 15-2 run over the next five minutes, capped off by a mid-range jumper from Marques Charlton (Deer Park, NY) pushed Clarkson’s edge to double figures and the Golden Knights would not look back for the remainder of the half. A 3-pointer from the top of the key by Alex Medina in the final minute kept the Bobcats within striking distance as the Knights led 45-33 at the half.

Sophomore John Coleman was 5-for-6 in the first half with a team-best 11 points while Jerry Coleman (Potsdam, NY) added in eight points and Nate Uline (Gansevoort, NY) contributed seven points on 3-for-5 shooting. Overall, Clarkson shot 19-for-33 from the field and 15-for-21 from inside the 3-point arc. Devon Carr had 12 points and a pair of assists for the Bobcats.

In the second half, Paul Smith’s would record the first four points on free throws to get back to within single digits, but the Golden Knights would continue to make good cuts to the basket for easy baskets. The Bobcats continued to make 3-pointers when they needed them, however, and were still within 12 points with just over eight minutes to go. Clarkson had five lay ups in the next four minutes along with other clutch shots and pushed the advantage to over 20 points, and the Knights would hold on for a 23-point victory.

John Coleman finished 9-for-11 from the floor and added in a pair of blocks and steals in his effort for Clarkson while older brother Jerry tossed in 18 points and made three steals. Marques Charlton also scored 16 points and Nate Uline produced 14 points and six rebounds. Christian Collette (Yalesville, CT) had eight points and five rebounds in 13 minutes off the bench for Clarkson.

For Paul Smith’s Alex Medina scored 22 points and also had six assists, though he also committed seven turnovers in the contest. Devon Carr added 16 points and Shiva Senthil scored 13 points off the bench, including four 3-pointers.
