MORRISVILLE, N.Y.—Junior midfielder Michaela Cole (Parishville, N.Y./Parishville-Hopkinton) scored a career-high seven goals as the SUNY Potsdam women's lacrosse team (5-4) overwhelmed Morrisville State (2-6) 19-9 on Thursday night. Junior midfielder Murphy Newman (Canton, N.Y./Berkshire School) recorded her third six-goal game of the season, giving her 36 for the year. She now has 67 career goals, placing her ninth on the Bears' all-time list. Senior midfielder Bri McClusky (Watertown, N.Y./Immaculate Heart), who entered the contest ranked third in the nation for assists-per-game at 3.63, added five more to her total along with two goals for seven points.

The Mustangs led 2-1 just 2:22 into the contest, with Potsdam's first goal coming from junior attack Katie Lapinski (Canton, N.Y./Hugh C. Williams), but the Bears quickly took the lead for good. Senior midfielder Maggie McCabe (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) set up Newman to tie the game at the 24:44 mark. Just 35 seconds later, Cole scored her first of the evening. McClusky capped the 3-0 run at 22:38 to put Potsdam up 4-2. Morrisville's Elizabeth Leva sandwiched the next two Mustang goals around Murphy's second to close the gap to 5-4. The Bears then seized control of the contest with a 5-1 streak to close the half. Newman scored three times and Cole netted the other two. McClusky recorded two assists during the run and Potsdam led 10-5 at the break.

The Bears nearly matched their first half output with nine more goals in the final 30 minutes. As they did in the first half, the Mustangs scored two of the first three goals in the second, trimming the lead to 11-6. McClusky got Potsdam's first goal of the half at 20:43. The Bears then went on a 4-0 run, including three from Cole, over a four-minute span. Cole netted the first two 44 seconds apart. Freshman midfielder Cayla O'Connor (Dexter, N.Y./General Brown) buried her sixth of the year with a helper from McClusky at 16:01. Cole capped the run at 14:39 with an assist from junior attack Nicole Damon (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) to make it 15-7 game. McCabe scored at 10:52 in between two Morrisville tallies and then the Bears finished the game with three straight. O'Connor scored her second at 6:49 followed by a Newman from McClusky connection 24 seconds later. Cole got her seventh with 2:38 remaining for the 19-9 final.

In goal, junior Devan Olschewske (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) made nine saves in 49:08 to earn her 13th career win. Freshman Katie Longamore (Dexter, N.Y./General Brown) made one save in the last 10:52. Calin Dunphy finished with six stops for the Mustangs.

Potsdam outshot Morrisville 34-24 and picked up 25 ground balls to the Mustangs' 16. The Bears also totaled17 of 30 draw controls, including a career-high nine from O'Connor and five from McCabe. McCabe continues to move up in the program's record books. She is now seventh all-time in both ground balls (108) and draw controls (74).

Potsdam returns to SUNYAC play for a critical contest at New Paltz at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
