St. Lawrence University's women's squash team won the four matches at the top of the lineup, but Colby College took the five at the bottom and advanced to the semifinals in Walker Cup competition as the College Squash Association team nationals got underway at Harvard Friday morning.
The Saints, ranked 20th, will play Wellesley College in the consolation semifinals Saturday morning at 9 a.m. while Colby, the 21st ranked team, advances to play Amherst, the top-ranked team in the Walker Cup draw.
Friday's match against Colby was a close one right down the lineup. Seven of the nine matches went to extra games and three went the full five.
Jill Baker beat Colby's Devin Mullaney 3-1 at one, winning 11-7, 10-12, 14-12, 11-8 and Emily Terry got by Julie Wolpow 3-2 at two, 11-5, 9-11, 11-9, 8-11, 11-8. Brigitte Tousignant was a 3-1 winner over Mikaela Johnson of Colby at three, 11-4, 11-5, 11-13, 11-0 and Zoe Kagan beat Tara Tishcio 11-6, 11-9, 8-11, 11-7 at four for the Saint wins.
Elizabeth Brehman of Colby beat Cristina de la Vega 11-6, 11-7, 11-6 at five, Madeline Hunsicker beat Val Quan 11-4, 11-3, 11-13, 11-8 at six and Cricket DiGaloma came from down 2-1 to beat Allie Brazo 3-2 at seven, 11-9, 9-11, 3-11, 11-8, 11-9. Elise O'Brien beat Paige Buchanan 12-10, 11-45, 11-4 at eight and Caroline Pelham closed out the Colby win with a 11-7, 10-12, 11-13, 11-6, 11-8 win over Losangela Batista at nine.
