First-year Pierre Coffy netted a career-high 21 points and Ben Crawford added his eighth double-double of the season, while juniors Dom DeRegis and Chris Miner recorded double-digits, but the St. Lawrence University men' basketball team fell to Hobart 91-78 in conference play Saturday afternoon in Burkman Gymnasium.

Coffy shot 8-for-15 from the field and 4-for-8 from the arc. DeRegis posted 18 points and six rebounds, while Crawford added 13 points and a team-high 14 rebounds. Miner recorded 11 points, eight rebounds and grabbed two steals for the Saints.

St. Lawrence sprinted out to an early 7-3 lead on a layup from Miner. Colin Dougherty rebounded to tie the game at seven at the 16:25 mark of the first half. Dougherty completed the 3-point play giving Hobart their first lead of the game.

Both teams battled for control of the lead after a series of four ties midway through the first frame. Jamal Lucas gave the Statesmen a five-point advantage on a layup with just under six minutes to play. Lucas then extended the lead to nine with 2:44 to play, while the Statesmen held a 39-34 lead at halftime.

The Statesmen opened the second half with a speedy five-point run, but Coffy hit a 3-pointer to bring the Scarlet and Brown within three. Luke Ruddy hit a layup giving Hobart a 60-49 lead with just over 12 minutes remaining in regulation. Coffy rallied again for the Saints, trimming Hobarts' lead to five with 10:31 to play and again a minute later with another 3-pointer.

Hobart extended its lead to the double-digits and sealed the win on a series of fouls down the stretch, shooting 72 percent from the line.

Hobart was led by Dougherty with 25 points and four rebounds, while Tucker Lescoe went 7-for-14 from the floor and 7-for-13 from the arc for 21 points. Sam Allen and Lucas also added double digits for the Statesmen, recording 17 and 15 points, respectively. Allen and Lucas combined for 13 rebounds, while Allen also grabbed four steals.

With the loss, the Saints fell to 3-13 overall and 1-8 in conference play, while Hobart captured its seventh-straight win and improved to 13-3 and 8-1.

St. Lawrence will host Vassar and Bard on January 26-27 for its third-consecutive Liberty League weekend at home.
