Morrisville, NY – Rhea Coad (Wheatfield, NY) and Lora Ardoin (Houston, TX) scored one goal each to narrow the deficit to one on two different occasions but three unanswered scores gave host Morrisville State College a 6-2 win in Colonial Hockey Conference play on Saturday afternoon.

The win keeps the Mustangs perfect at 6-0-0 overall and 4-0-0 in CHC play, while the Roos drop to 2-2-0 and 0-2-0 within league play.

The teams each challenged the opposing goaltender with 10 shots over the opening 20 minutes but it was host Morrisville who took a 2-0 lead after the first behind goals from Kylie Cameron and Renee Stevenson.

Coad got Canton within one at 1:35 of the middle period when she recorded an unassisted marker, her second tally of the season. Vanessa Klimpke buried her eighth goal of the season just over two minutes later which proved to be the eventual game-winner.

At 10:52 of the second Margret Troiano (Morristown, NY) delivered a pass to Ardoin as the captain beat Mustang goaltender Renee Schmaltz to get the Roos within 3-2.

Morrisville was quick to respond as Stevenson scored shorthanded just 23 seconds later and Klimpke added her second of the game at 14:41 as Morrisville led 5-2 after two. The Mustangs would add an insurance goal 3:50 into the third off the stick of Kaitlyn Schlake for the 6-2 final.

Brooke Susac (Bowmanville, ON) made 19 saves over the first 43:50, while Illie Berisha (Lake Ariel, PA) stopped 10 shots without allowing a goal over the final 16:10. Schmaltz finished with 29 saves for Morrisville.
